A car is highly recommended as destinations in the desert can be quite a distance apart. There is public bus service, but as bus stops are located outside the gated community it is very long walk to exit the gated community to get to these. Unfortunately relying solely on public transit is not a realistic option. Taxis, UBER & LYFT are available in La Quinta, as well as in the other neighbouring desert cities.
