By car

From the south, follow the A74/M74 (direction Glasgow) until Gretna. Then pick up the A75 to Dumfries, the A76 to Cumnock and the A70 to Ayr. An interesting alternative is the scenic Galloway Tourist Route along the A713 from Dumfries.

From the north, travel south towards Glasgow and join the M77/A77. At the junction between the A77 and the A70, turn right into Ayr. Stay on Holmston Road (A70) all the way into Ayr - the River Ayr is on the right.

At a large double roundabout (opposite the station) turn LEFT and then immediately RIGHT.

The road crosses the railway line into Ayr town centre.

At the ESSO PETROL STATION, follow the one way system round to the LEFT; go down the hill, turn LEFT at the traffic lights into Beresford Terrace; after 100 metres fork RIGHT at the school into Midton Road. Continue along Midton Road for 200 metres, take the road down the LEFT hand side of St Columba’s Church (Carrick Park); then turn into the first opening in the wall on the right hand side (approx 100 metres). Church Cottage is the 3rd house on the right hand side & the 2 parking spaces are on the left.

By train

Ayr is on a main line from Glasgow (Central Station). Trains run every 30 minutes (60 minutes on Sunday) and the journey takes about 45 minutes.

From Ayr station it is 400 metres to Church Cottage.

- Taxis wait on the main road outside (short journey)

- On foot: cross the square; pass the Odeon cinema; turn left in front of the Royal Bank of Scotland (into Beresford Terrace); and follow the pavement; after 100 metres fork right at the school into Midton Road; continue along Midton Road for 100 metres, take the road down the left hand side of the St Columba’s Church (Carrick Park), after 100 metres turn into the opening in the wall on the right hand side, Church Cottage is the 3rd house on the right hand side.

By air

From Prestwick Airport to Church Cottage is about 5 miles.

By car: turn left on leaving the airport and travel straight through the towns of Prestwick and Ayr. Approaching Ayr town centre, when you see Lidl and Brantano shops on the right, prepare to turn right at the large roundabout with the Police Station on the corner - turn right. Then turn left, cross the River Ayr and go straight through the town centre. When the shops finish, go 1 more mile along a tree lined road; the Ellisland Hotel is on a corner on the left – turn left there into Bellevue Road; go to the top and turn right into Midton Road. Continue along Midton Road for 100 metres, take the road down the left hand side of the St Columba’s Church (Carrick Park), after 100 metres turn into the opening in the wall on the right hand side, Church Cottage is the third house on the right hand side.

By train: from the station at Prestwick airport to Ayr station is a 5 minute journey. Trains run every 30 minutes (60 minutes on Sundays). Then see directions above.

From Glasgow Airport (about 40 miles)

By car: leave the airport on the M8 following the signs to Glasgow City Centre and Kilmarnock. Next leave the M8 at Junction 24 and follow the signs to Kilmarnock. After a short but slow journey through built up areas, you should join the M77 to Kilmarnock and Ayr. Then follow car travel directions above.

By train: from the airport, get to Paisley station either by taking the shuttle bus (£3, but can be refunded at the train station if you ask the bus driver for a transfer ticket) or a taxi (approximately £5). Trains from Paisley to Ayr (£8) run every 30 minutes (60 minutes on Sundays) and the journey takes about 40 minutes. From Ayr station follow the directions above.
