A car is necessary on the island. There is a ferry to Ocracoke Island to the south. Closest airport is Norfolk, which is a 2 hour drive north of the home.

Pay very close attention to the speed limits when on the island and in the surrounding vicinity. The North Carolina police are VERY stringent and will give out tickets to "out of towners" caught speeding or not obeying the local traffic laws.
